Alfred Tennyson may have written "in the Spring a young man's fancy lightly turn to thoughts of love", but had he been around today, he'd say that in the fall, a young man's fancy along with everyone else's fancy turns to thoughts of fall snacks.
Fall Snacks
Fall means the kids are back in school and not only are they looking for fall sweets to top off their school lunches, but they're also ravenous when they come home. So if like a squirrel, you're in charge of squirreling away satisfying goodies to tide them over until dinner, there's no better place to look for them than on our Pennsylvania General Store Fall Favorites web page.
Can you imagine how excited your kids will be to find our Autumn Snack Basket on the kitchen table welcoming them home after school? And how each day they'll look forward to deciding which of our fall food gifts will suit them that day. Perhaps they'll choose a handful of Sweetzels Ginger Snaps or Spiced Wafers on Monday; hand-rolled Pennsylvania Dutch Pretzels on Tuesday; a few Just Born Jelly Beans on Wednesday; Sweetzels Spiced Mini Cremes on Thursday, and to celebrate the end of the week and anticipate the weekend, a Tastykake Peanut Butter Kandy Kake on Friday.
Fall Food Gifts
Speaking of weekends, you might want to stock up for all those Sunday afternoons spent watching football games and snacking. If you've been invited to a friend's house to view the big game there's no better hostess gift to bring than our 2-lb Fall Chocolate Pretzel Tray, a cornucopia of fall decorated chocolate dipped pretzels; nonpareils decked out in autumn colors, and dark chocolate Oreos, Or if you want to contribute to the public good as well as to your snacking enjoyment, you can bring an XPN Snack Basket. We donate a portion of the proceeds of each of these special fall gift baskets to Public Radio Station WXPN.
Fall is also time to think about Thanksgiving cooking. May we suggest Cope's Dried Sweet Corn as an authentic Pennsylvania Dutch side dish. And whether you'll be cooking or just partaking of it you'll want to save your appetite for the big feast so why not have a light breakfast of a bagel and cream cheese topped with one of our Bauman fruit butters, either the small batch Bauman Pumpkin Butter or Strawberry or Pumpkin Butter or the time-honored Bauman Apple Butter churned out in the family operated factory located in the quaint nineteenth century PA village of Sassamansville since the turn of the 20th century and now overseen by the third generation of Baumans.
If perchance you're wondering if the words "the Best of Pennsylvania" in our logo is a matter of hyperbole, the answer is no. We source everything we offer from small family run Pennsylvania food operations. And if you visit our brick and mortar location shop in the historic Reading Terminal Market you'll find creations from local crafts people. But you don't have to come to PA to enjoy any of our best of Pennsylvania products. We will gladly ship them to you.
